How are Napoli doing so well this season?

Scouted Football Podcast – Episode 113: SSC Napoli

Episode 113 of the Scouted Football Podcast, focussing on SSC Napoli's exciting form

It’s been a whirlwind start to the season for Napoli, winning their Champions League group while starting their Serie A campaign undefeated with 12 wins and two draws from 14 matches.

To discuss the season so far, as well as giving some background to the club and city of Naples, Joe Donnohue spoke to Raffaele Rispo, founder of the Far From Vesuvius Napoli content network.

Napoli’s season has been underpinned by their ability to regenerate their squad, replacing some ageing veterans in Kalidou Koulibaly and Lorenzo Insigne, as well as Fabián Ruiz, with some hidden gems such as Kvicha ‘Kvaradona’ Kvaratshkelia and Kim Min-Jae coming in to join some established stars in Victor Osimhen, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, and Stanislav Lobotka.

We also spoke about the Napoli way, which is very different to Italy’s northern clubs, from the affluent cities of Milan and Turin, as well as the Roman clubs, and it brings with it a certain charm, with its passionate ultras central to the club’s identity.

This remained true during the golden era of Diego Maradona in the late 80s, through to bankruptcy in the early 2000s, and then into the more prosperous 2010s up to now.
