Many FPL managers wrote Heung-min Son off this season after he failed to score in the first 6 Gameweeks, but things have quickly changed after he scored a second half hat-trick against Leicester City.

He has since followed up with an assist versus Brighton and two goals in the Champions League against Eintracht Frankfurt midweek. You would expect him to keep his place in the side for the foreseeable future and he has a good fixture this week against Everton.

Kevin De Bruyne (12.4m) could easily get returns against Liverpool this week, as Man City are in formidable form and Liverpool have looked leaky in defence. But if you have two transfers and want to be well-prepared for Man City’s blank in GW12, then Son is an easy buy this week. I’d be more against selling Mohamad Salah (12.7m) to get Son, due to Salah playing in Gameweek 12 and having decent fixtures until the World Cup.

Lewis Dunk is a good cheap defender option to prepare for the Gameweek 12 blank, especially if you’re a Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.3m) owner or you just need a defender who can cover for Joao Cancelo’s blank. The Brighton Hove & Albion captain is the first name on the team sheet for De Zerbi’s team and they are versing the struggling Nottingham Forest in GW12.

Whilst Liverpool have decent fixtures from GW12 onwards, Trent Alexander-Arnold can definitely be sold this week before the Manchester City game to free up funds elsewhere and bring in a defender who will definitely play in GW12.

It has been reported that Trent will be out for around two weeks, but it could be longer. Therefore, there’s probably no point holding onto him, even if you might want him back later. He will likely drop in price again.

Phillipe Coutinho has failed to get a return this year, as Aston Villa are pitifully struggling in the attacking department so far this season. Aston Villa have only managed to score more than 1.0xG in a game once in their last six games.

They only managed to score 1 goal from a 0.69 xG gainst Nottingham Forest, who have the leakiest defence in the league. Not sure why 4.7% of FPL managers still own Coutinho.

The Crystal Palace star managed to get an assist against Leeds last week, and there’s more to come for him in the coming weeks, as he plays six of the bottom-eight teams in the Premier League until the World Cup.

He hasn’t gotten a massive haul this season, but you’d expect him to at least get a few returns. There’s no need to get rid of him. He’s on penalties and he rarely plays less than 90 minutes.

Gabriel Martinelli continues to shine for Arsenal this season, and he doesn’t look like slowing down at all. There isn’t really a player that’s competing with him on the left side, and Leeds United is a decent fixture this week.

I would definitely avoid selling him, even though he blanks in GW12. You would lose a lot of value (assuming you bought him a while ago) by selling him, and it would be hard to get him back if he plays well, particularly if you’re strapped for cash.

The Brazilian midfielder has become such an integral player for the Magpies in so many ways, and he managed to score a brace against Brentford last week. Newcastle United are in great form and Bruno Guimarães will probably play a lot of minutes under Eddie Howe.

However, he doesn’t have a lot of goal threat and I don’t think he will be deployed in an attacking role when he plays alongside two other midfielders. Joseph Willock (4.9m) and Joelinton (6.0m) usually play further forward.

Patson Daka (5.7m) would be great value if he wasn’t constantly competing with Jamie Vardy (9.2m) for the No.9 position. Leicester City have good fixtures, but I just wouldn’t risk bringing him in ahead of Gameweek 12 when there are better budget forward options such as Dominic Solanke (5.7m) and Gianluca Scamacca (6.7m).

Darwin Nunez is back up front for Liverpool, and he seems to be getting himself into great positions to score after the games versus Arsenal and Rangers most recently. He could be a great differential pick for GW13 onwards, particularly if you don’t own Salah and you’re wanting to spend less money for a Liverpool attacker.

It will be interesting to see how he plays against Man City this week, as Jürgen Klopp seems to have adopted a different shape over the last few games which sees Roberto Firmino (9.0m) and the Uruguayan both play up front at times.

Manuel Akanji has slotted into Man City’s defence seamlessly since arriving in the summer, and he seems to be getting a lot of minutes under Pep Guardiola.

He could be fantastic value if we continue to see him start in defence for Man City, either at centre-back or right-back. A start against Liverpool may indicate that he’s played himself into Pep’s preferred XI.

It’s hard to go against Erling Haaland for captain this week, as he currently sits at 84.3% ownership at the time of writing. Captaining someone else would be extremely nerve wracking, considering how many FPL managers seem to be ‘set and forgetting’ their captaincy choice on the Norwegian.

Harry Kane arguably has the easier fixture, and he’s been in great form. If you’re wanting to take a risk, he would be my favourite choice.

James' team selection for FPL GW11

I decided to be more attacking with my transfer last week, as I brought in an unpopular Gianluca Scamacca (6.7m) for the injured Alexander Mitrović (6.8m), who wasn’t going to play against West Ham, and he’s still a doubt against Bouremouth for GW 11.

Luckily, it paid off, even though Andreas Pereira would’ve scored only 3 less points than the Italian forward after the substitutions were triggered.

Scamacca got into many good positions, and he was unlucky not to have scored more goals. It’s clear that he has become David Moyes’ preferred No.9, and he has another good fixture against Southampton this week.

I’m happy with how the rest of the team performed, and I don’t think I’ll be making any changes ahead of Gameweek 11. I want to have two free transfers before Man City and Arsenal’s blank in Gameweek 12, so I can adapt to any injuries and make more informed decisions in preparation for Gameweeks 13-16. I’m not happy with my rank so far this season, but there’s plenty of time to claw my way back.

As always, Erling Haaland is the premiere option. However, he is playing Liverpool this week, so other options like Gabriel Jesus, Harry Kane and Gabriel Martinelli are worth considering.

After his injury, you should look to trade out Trent Alexander-Arnold. Lewis Dunk is a solid option to replace him.
