Preview of and tips for Gameweek 10 of the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League season

We’ve compiled a shortlist of players to buy, sell, keep, avoid and monitor in Gameweek 10 of this season’s FPL.

Phil Foden will be a popular choice this week after an emphatic hattrick against local rivals, Manchester United. There are other good options around his price point, but he’d be worth bringing in this week against Southampton as the potential for another haul is high. Manchester City are just so ridiculously good.

He was left on the bench against FC København in the Champions League, so he’s likely to start and get good minutes. The last couple of seasons has proven to us that Guardiola trusts him in multiple positions and he’s usually the second-best midfielder for minutes behind Kevin De Bruyne (12.4m).

Dominic Solanke may be a surprising choice for a lot of FPL managers, but I think he presents as a good enabler if you’re looking to use the cash to get desirable players elsewhere in your squad. At 5.7m, he’s the only striker around that price point that is fairly nailed in the No.9 position, on penalty duty, and has good fixtures. If Bournemouth score goals, he’ll most likely be involved.

Marcus Rashford has been a decent choice since the start of the season, and he received the Premier League’s September Player of the Month award. Anthony Martial’s return from injury means that his minutes may be reduced, as Jadon Sancho (7.3m) and Antony (7.5m) could be the favoured picks for Ten Hag in the wide positions.

It might be worth transferring Rashford out and upgrading to Wilfried Zaha (7.2m) if you don’t already have him, or the plethora of good 8.1m midfielders.

Martin Ødegaard has had a great start of the season, but I don’t think he has enough goal threat for FPL. His returns are drying up and if there’s one midfielder from Arsenal you should have, it’s probably Gabriel Martinelli (6.5m).

Otherwise, there are better midfield options at other clubs who have much better fixtures. Arsenal are also blank in Gameweek 12.

João Cancelo only received 1 point after Manchester City’s 6-3 win over Manchester United, which was surprising and frustrating for many FPL managers.

You should definitely keep him for this week’s game against Southampton, as the chances of a clean sheet are high and his potential for attacking returns are decent, albeit his statistics are down from last season. I’m not completely against selling him after Gameweek 10, it may be a good idea to use his cash elsewhere before the game against Liverpool and the blank in Gameweek 12.

FPL managers who own Ivan Toney would also be frustrated after Brentford’s stalemate with Bournemouth. He has some tougher fixtures coming up, but I wouldn’t be panicking about him.

He’s almost a guaranteed starter for Thomas Frank’s side, he’s a fantastic penalty taker and he is heavily involved when Brentford score goals.

Conor Coady has gone up in price after receiving 9 points from Everton’s 2-1 win over Southampton last week. He has a couple of returns this season and a good number of clean sheets, but I wouldn’t expect this to continue. Everton have tough fixtures in their next three.

I think there are better options around his price point, such as Kurt Zouma (4.5m) or a Chelsea defender for a bit more money.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has copped a lot of scrutiny for his defensive performances over Liverpool’s shaky start to the season and he has gone down in price. He’s in the monitor category because he just scored a sublime free-kick against Rangers in the Champions League and we know he’s capable of getting attacking returns.

However, his next two fixtures are against Arsenal and Manchester City, which aren’t great from a defensive point of view. I think we should look to transfer him back into our teams from Gameweek 12 onwards once we’ve gathered more information on his form. Can he return to his peak Liverpool days and be the best defender FPL has ever had? We shall see.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has kicked off his Chelsea career well, after scoring again in the Champions League against AC Milan. Chelsea has some good fixtures coming up, so he looks to be a good option as their main striker.

Getting to him early could be a smart move, but I think most of us will want to wait and see whether he continues to start and play well under Graham Potter. 9.0m is also a tough price point to transfer him in, as you would most likely need two transfers if you don’t have another premium striker alongside Erling Haaland (12.2m).

There is no better option than Erling Haaland. He’s an absolute freak that keeps on scoring at extraordinary rates. The only thing that will stop him is injury of City rotating him out to give him a bit of a rest.

James Siouw's team selection for GW10 of the Fantasy Premier League

Not captaining Haaland has cost me a massive boost in rank. I made my captaincy choice based on the fixture, and I’ve been severely punished by not realising that Erling Haaland is a cheat code, and that he could be playing in the best team the Premier League has ever seen. I would’ve scored another 18 points, bringing me up to 94 points for Gameweek 9 and back into the top 1,000,000. Other than that, I’m happy with my wildcard team.

James Maddison (8.0m) was a massive boost for me and playing Danny Ward (4.0m) over Vicente Guaíta (4.5m) turned out well. I am still not sure who I should start for Gameweek 10, as Ward plays Bournemouth and Guaíta plays Leeds.

I’d be tempted to transfer out Alexander Mitrović (6,9m) if we hear news that he’s definitely ruled out before the deadline. Otherwise, my team looks good for Gameweek 11 and beyond.

Erling Haaland is the standout option. He’s scoring at an extraordinary rate with no signs of slowing down. Southampton are the next team on his hit list.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke are two of the best players to pick up for FPL GW10.
