Who is Héctor Fort?

La Masia is what it is: a never-ending pool of talent. Next up is Hector Fort. The 2006-born full-back has the sort of pedigree you would expect.

He is progressing through the Barcelona system through the usual route, up through the all the underage groups, through the UEFA Youth League, into the club’s reserve team in the Spanish third division, and he seems destined for an eventual first team debut.

At the same time, he is working his way through the youth national team age groups, with some fine showings for Spain at the Under-17 World Cup in 2023.

Héctor Fort's style of play

Fort is no frills. He just quietly and efficiently gets things done. He is not hyper athletic for his age, he is not overly strong, but he is extremely mature in the manner in which he goes about his work on both sides of the ball.

Defensively, he never overextends himself and finds himself massively out of position. When he has to defend one-on-one, he is quite light on his feet and shifts well to cover any changes of direction from the ball carrier. He copes pretty well athletically within his age range, but will need some scaling up in that department before he can become a reliable contributor at senior level.

In attack, again, there is nothing flashy, but so much quiet excellence. Firstly, his crossing is outstanding. The weight and shape of his delivery is just wonderful; slightly looped, curving away slightly, sitting up, and just waiting to be latched onto. From what we’ve seen, this extends quite well into his overall ball striking when inverting and attempting shots from range.

His ability to play short and interchange with attackers in the final third is also exactly what you expect from a player of his pedigree. He is a great decision-maker that has such a great base profile to build on as he works his way into senior football.

Hector Fort is an incredible crosser of the ball. Above all, he is an extremely intelligent and efficient full-back on both sides of the ball.

Fort has a decent amount of speed, but he is definitely a little on the slight side. He needs to develop a bit more power in order to match it with more physical players at senior level.
