How do I develop left-wingers in FIFA 23 Career mode?

There are a few key methods to develop left-wingers in FIFA 23. Firstly, they need to play senior minutes and get good match ratings in matches. Obviously, this needs to be balanced with your need to win games but getting them on the field as much as possible is vital.

If you can’t give them minutes, then consider sending them on loan. However, when loaning players, ensure that you are sending them to a club where they will play senior minutes, or you risk further stunting their growth.

Next, focus on doing well in training drills and earning good ratings. Generally, you should be able to play through each drill a few times, do them well, and then you should be able to subsequently simulate the sessions and earn a similar grade. However, if your grades start to fall, you should take control of your drills again to boost your ratings back up.

Lastly, and very importantly, is your player development plan. Development plans determine what kind of skillset you want your player to develop for their role in your team.

FIFA 23 Career Left Winger Development Path

For left-wingers, there are five development paths to choose from:

Balanced – The all-round option that will see your left-winger develop all their attributes with no real particular focus.

Wide Winger – A wide winger will look to play like an old-fashioned wide player that hugs the touchline and looks to get balls into the box. They will specialise in sprint speed, attacking positioning, crossing, curve, agility, balance, ball control, dribbling, stamina, and building up their attacking work rate.

Inverted Winger – An inverted winger will look to cut inside more often and look to attack the half spaces as a genuine goalscoring option. To do this, they specialise in sprint speed, stamina, ball control and dribbling to get into position, and then finishing, attacking positioning, shot power, long shots, and volleys to bring that goal threat. They will also develop their weak foot.

Support Winger – A support winger will look to protect their full-back, which will see them develop their defensive work rate. They also focus on developing their acceleration, interceptions, stamina and reactions, while on the offensive side of the game, they will improve upon their long shots, vision, crossing, short passing and ball control skills.

Wide Playmaker – Wide playmakers will look to be a creative outlet for your team from the wing. The main talents they will develop are short passing, long passing, crossing, vision, free kick accuracy, dribbling, and their skill moves. They will also develop their stamina and acceleration.

How do I develop left midfielders in FIFA 23 Career mode?

If you play with a left midfielder instead of a left-winger, then there are more options to choose from.

Balanced – The all-round option that will see your left-midfielder develop all their attributes with no real particular focus.

Wide Playmaker – Wide playmakers will look to be a creative outlet for your team from the wing. The main talents they will develop are stamina, short passing, crossing, vision, free kick accuracy, dribbling, and their skill moves. Unlike a right-winger though, a right midfielder will develop their curve and dribbling instead of long passing and acceleration.

Wide Midfielder – A wide midfielder will look to play like an old-fashioned wide player that hugs the touchline and looks to get balls into the box. But, given the deeper nature of their starting position in comparison to a winger, they specialise in slightly different things. For the wide midfielder, they are acceleration, vision, crossing, long passing, short passing, agility, composure, ball control, stamina and attacking work rate.

Inverted Wide Midfielder – An inverted wide midfielder will look to cut inside more often and look to attack the half spaces as a genuine goalscoring option. However, given that they are starting from a deeper position, the focus shifts slightly more towards vision and passing than shooting. The attributes they will develop are sprint speed, finishing, attacking positioning, shot power, vision, short passing, balance, dribbling, stamina and weak foot.

Support Midfielder – A support midfielder will look to protect their full-back, which will see them develop their defensive work rate. They will defend very stoutly, with a focus on developing their standing tackle, interceptions, reactions, sprint speed, defensive work rate, stamina and acceleration, while their attacking development will be limited to crossing, long passing and ball control.

We’ve split this section into three left wingers that can start for your teams straight away, and three left wingers that are good options for the future:

Vinicius Júnior

Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior, one of the best left wingers in FIFA 23 Career Mode

Real Madrid raised many eyebrows when they spent an astonishing €45 million to sign Vinicius Júnior after just a handful of senior minutes for Flamengo in Brazil as a 17-year-old. But he has developed into a player befitting of the price tag, forming one of European football’s most exciting duos with Karim Benzema.

With 5* skills, 95 sprint speed and acceleration, and elite level dribbling skills, he is going to be a fan favourite in this year’s edition of FIFA, cutting onto his right foot and scoring plenty of goals.

Ansu Fati

While injuries have stunted his impact in the real world, there is no doubting Ansu Fati’s potential to be an elite level left winger. And he will be one many FIFA players enjoy using in this game, given his 90 acceleration and 87 sprint speed.

With the potential to gain 11 overall points, you should be able to bump this up a lot to turn him into a proper speed demon – to pair with his respectable shooting and dribbling. 4* skills and weak foot are nice complimentary qualities as well.

Phil Foden

Phil Foden is the best player to have ever come out of the Manchester City academy, and he’s just getting started. He is already a star at club and international level at 21; one of the best players on the planet playing in traffic, weaving his way in and out of defences and finding passing lanes where others can’t.

Foden is blessed with high level dribbling in FIFA 23 Career Mode, so while he is not quite as pacy as others, he suits game styles that prefer a slower and more methodical approach.

Rayan Cherki

Lyon's Rayan Cherki, one of the best left wingers in FIFA 23 Career Mode

Rayan Cherki is one of the most skillful young players emerging in the game. The Lyon winger can be a solid contributor from the jump in your career mode save, and should be a lot of fun with his dribbling, 5* skills and 5* weak foot.

With 15 overall points to develop, taking him to an 88 overall, you should be able to add some much needed pace and shooting to his skillset to turn him into a greater all-round attacking threat.

Nicola Zalewski

Nicola Zalewski does not have as big a reputation as the other players on this page, but he is slowly developing into a very important player at Roma under Jose Mourinho. He is more of an industrious type in comparison to Cherki, with a focus on solid pace and dribbling stats.

With the potential to develop into an 86 overall winger, he is a great option if you are looking for a transitional threat out wide, rather than a technical controller.

Mykhaylo Mudryk

There may be no player in Europe whose reputation has grown more in 2022 than Mykhailo Mudryk, who has captured the continent’s attention with his electric speed and dribbling ability. It’s a shame he doesn’t have 5* skills, but 89 acceleration, 87 sprint speed and solid dribbling stats will make him a really fun player to develop.

With the potential to reach an 85 overall, he could become a Vinicius Jnr style wide attacker that can attack the box in transition with his pace.

Heung-min Son, Neymar Jr, Vinícius Júnior, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden are the highest-rated left wingers in FIFA 23 Career Mode.

Beyond Vinícius Júnior and Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Mkhaylo Mudryk are two of the best young left wingers in FIFA 23 Career Mode.
