He has seemingly been around for ever, but still at just 22, Gianluigi Donnarumma is the Rolls Royce of young goalkeepers to sign in FIFA 22 Career Mode. Naturally, PSG will not let him go cheaply though, with the Italian only having just signed for the club and with a contract that runs until 2026.
Donnarumma is a shot-stopping extraordinaire, and so while he is not technically the strongest which may bring limitations to your build-up play, he will undoubtedly help you keep clean sheets.

GREGOR KOBEL

Quickly establishing himself as the BVB #1 after his arrival from Stuttgart, Gregor Kobel is a goalkeeper that starts the game strongly, with room to develop into one of the elite ‘keepers in FIFA 22 Career Mode.
With a more affordable wage and value than Donnarumma, he is a great option for a team looking to maximise their resources rather than looking to sign the best player in each position. His long contract will make extracting him from Dortmund difficult though.

AARON RAMSDALE

Eyebrows were raised when Aaron Ramsdale made his summer move to Arsenal, but an up and down season has generally been a positive one for the English goalkeeper. If you are looking for a young English goalkeeper primed for both now and with room to improve into the future, then there is no reason to look past Ramsdale.
Like Kobel, he comes at a much more affordable price tag than Donnarumma, allowing you to allocate resources to other areas of your club if need be.

Manchester City’s Gavin Bazunu has spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Portsmouth gaining a huge amount of valuable senior experience for a goalkeeper at 19 years of age. His low value and wage presents an opportunity for you to buy him to loan out, or if you are starting in a lower division, sign him and play him to improve as you move up the divisions.
Starting the game at 68 overall, the Irishman has the potential to develop astronomically, eventually becoming one of the game’s premiere goalkeepers with a nicely rounded set of goalkeeping attributes.

JAY GORTER

Ajax and high potential young players – you’ve heard it all before. So here’s Jay Gorter, signed by the giant Amsterdarm club from Go Ahead Eagles in 2021, and currently featuring regularly for the club’s youth team that plays in the Dutch second division.
With the longest running contract of our three highlighted youngsters, he is probably the most difficult to acquire, but could be worth looking into as you push a few years into your Career Mode save. The fact that he isn’t yet a first-team starter will make him more attainable oo.

MAARTEN VANDERVOORDT

Possibly more familiar to Football Manager players than FIFA players, Maarten Vandevoordt has nonetheless been turned into one of the must-have wonderkid goalkeepers in FIFA 22 career mode.
While he has made the move to RB Leipzig in real life, Vandevoordt should be available at the start of your save with the potential to be either a decent back-up goalkeeper, or a player you send out on loan to develop into a potential start further down the line. Given the lack of cheap, high potential goalkeepers in the game, he is worth tracking.

WHAT ARE FIFA WONDERKIDS?
Wonderkids are what every Career Mode manager looks for in FIFA. They’re young prospects – usually aged 16 to 19 – that have elite-level potential in the game. Freddy Adu is a prominent example for older managers, while Youssoufa Moukoko is a current case. They’re the superstar youngsters that are must-buys on every save.
But it’s also subjective. A wonderkid at Accrington Stanley is completely different to a wonderkid at Manchester City. Essentially, the surroundings dictate the status.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD GOALKEEPER IN FIFA 22?
A lot of FIFA gameplay is reliant on speed, meaning you ideally want an agile and mobile goalkeeper that is adept at coming off his line to sweep up balls behind your defence and cut out attacks before they develop into something more dangerous.
Apart from that, you want a goalkeeper that can consistently make impressive reaction saves. That’s the bread and butter of the position.
HOW DO YOU FIND THE BEST GOALKEEPERS IN FIFA 22?
You can do so by utilising the player search tool, which enables you to specify the certain variables you’re looking for in your player – from age to specific attributes.
Make the most of your scouts, too. Send them to look for the best young goalkeepers by defining their criteria – specifying under-23, high potential, etc. Alternatively, just scour the Scouted Football website.
HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUNG GOALKEEPERS IN FIFA 22?
As always, pathways are paramount. You have to make sure that your youngsters have access to meaningful minutes at the appropriate levels. If you have a first-team ready talent, phase him into the team gradually, during pre-season ideally.
If your prospect needs a bit more polishing, the loan system is a valuable tool. But pathways to senior level minutes are key. Assess your youngsters on a case-by-case basis, decide what they need, and enact your decision.
The highest rated goalkeepers in FIFA 22 are Alisson, Thibaut Courtous, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ederson, Samir Handanović, Édouard Mendy, Manuel Neuer, Jan Oblak and Marc-André ter Stegen.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is by far the best young goalkeeper in FIFA 22. After that, there’s a solid group of young GKs that includes the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Unai Simón, Gregor Kobel, Alban Lafont, Dean Henderson and Maarten Vandevoordt.
