How do I develop goalkeepers in EA FC 24 Career mode?
There are a few key methods to develop goalkeepers in EA FC 24. Firstly, they need to play senior minutes and get good match ratings in matches. Obviously, this needs to be balanced with your need to win games but getting them on the field as much as possible is vital.
If you can’t give them minutes, then consider sending them on loan. However, when loaning players, ensure that you are sending them to a club where they will play senior minutes, or you risk further stunting their growth.
Next, focus on doing well in training drills and earning good ratings. Generally, you should be able to play through each drill a few times, do them well, and then you should be able to subsequently simulate the sessions and earn a similar grade. However, if your grades start to fall, you should take control of your drills again to boost your ratings back up.
Lastly, and very importantly, is your player development plan. Development plans determine what kind of skillset you want your player to develop for their role in your team.
For goalkeepers, there are three development paths to choose from:
Balanced – The all-round option that will see your goalkeepers develop all their attributes with no real particular focus.
Goalkeeper – The Goalkeeper development plan will focus on more traditional goalkeeping fundamentals, where most attention is given to diving and reflexes.
Sweeper Keeper – A sweeper ‘keeper will play the more modern goalkeeping role, with emphasis on their ability to progress the ball. Their focus will be on weak foot (to facilitate playing out from the back more comfortably), kicking, positioning, and handling.

As far as cheap goalkeepers go, there is no one with a higher potential ceiling than Toulouse’s Guillaume Restes. The 70 overall Frenchman can eventually grow into an 87 overall, matching up strongly with the best goalkeepers in the game.
At 6’1” he is tall enough, and boasts a solid goalkeeper attribute profile: 71 diving, 70 handling, 70 kicking, 71 positioning and 74 reflexes. With a market value of €3.6 million, he is the number one go-to option.
Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen is an option for managers looking for a proper shot-stopper. Verbruggen’s outstanding attributes are his height, standing at 6’4”, and his reflexes and diving stats that sit at 80 and 77 respectively.
With a starting overall of 75, he is a more established option than a player like Restes, meaning he might be a more feasible option for those of you starting a save at a higher level. He won’t break the budget too much either, with a market value of €10.5 million.
Marten Vandevoordt is a good counter-option to Verbruggen. He is also 6’4” tall, and has the same current overall (75), and potential overall (85) as his Belgian counterpart. But he differs slightly in his goalkeeping attributes, being a more balanced option rather than a high-flying shot-stopper.
Whether you pick between Vandevoordt or Verbruggen is really just a personal stylistic choice, and you really can’t go wrong with either option, with Vandevoordt’s market value being almost identical to Verbruggen’s.
Looking at some more value options, we’ll start with Benfica’s André Gomes. There’s not much to decipher him from other options, although his 5 star weak foot is an interesting little bonus. In saying that, he is only six foot, so he’s a tad undersized compared to other options on this list.
62 diving, 60 handling, 61 kicking, 64 positioning, 66 reflexes… it’s pretty standard. He can grow from a 63 overall to an 84 and is valued at €1.4 million — a bargain for player who can be your long-term goalkeeper.
Even more of a left-of-field value option is Stuttgart’s Dennis Seimen. He’s the lowest valued player in this list at just €925k. Obviously, he is lacking in a lot of areas and will probably only be viable as a long-term option that you loan out, or starting at club at a very low level.
63 diving, 58 handling, 61 kicking, 56 positioning, and 62 reflexes make up his goalkeeper attributes, all embedded within a 6’3” frame. He’s obviously not the strongest option on this list, but he can grow to an 84 rated player and if he is all you can afford, he’s still a good pick-up for your career mode.
Rounding out our list is England Under-21 international James Trafford. If you don’t like the look of Restes being 6’1” and are looking for a goalkeeper that is around the same price, then Trafford is the player for you.
Trafford is 6’4”, valued at €4 million, and will still go to a very solid 84 rating, although outside of his height, he is beaten out by Restes in most other areas. He is a niche pick depending on what attributes you value most.
Thibaut Courtois, Marc-André ter Stegen, Alisson, Ederson and Jan Oblak are the highest rated goalkeepers in EA FC 24 Career Mode.
Guillaume Restes, Bart Verbruggen and Maarten Vandevoordt have the highest potential of young goalkeepers in EA FC 24 career mode.
