FOOTBALL MANAGER 2022 BARGAINS
CHEAP DEALS FOR UNDER-THE-RADAR EXCITING YOUNG PLAYERS IN FM22
Home - Best Young Players - FM 2022 Bargains
We cover youth football and we love Football Manager. We’ve combined both to compile a long list of under-the-radar young players that would represent good-value signings on your FM22 saves. We’ve tried to cap the cost at €5 million. From Williot Swedberg to Karim Konaté, there’s something here for any manager at any level.
WHY IS SIGNING BARGAIN PLAYERS SO IMPORTANT IN FM22?
Finding cheap players in FM22 is the best way to fast-track your growth into a top club. Following the buy-low-sell-high method of squad building and maintaining a tight wage budget is the best way to improve your squad and will keep your club financially stable, which will allow you to invest more money into your squad as you continue to improve.
While some of these players will be useful squad members that can then be sold on for a profit, some of them, like Lorenzo Lucca and Williot Swedberg, should be able to develop into long-term Champions League level players.
With some player’s potential varying from save to save, buying the best bargain wonderkids in FM22 can sometimes be a process of casting your net wide; buying many players, working out which ones are the best, selling the other ones for profit, and then continuing to repeat the process as you work your way towards the top of the league.
OUR LISTS OF THE BEST YOUNG TALENTS
HOW DO I SCOUT FOR BARGAINS IN FOOTBALL MANAGER 2022?
If you want bargains, you’ll have to think outside of the box. That means you will have to scout lesser-known markets and more obscure tournaments and countries.
If you have the infrastructure, send scouts to watch prominent youth tournaments and embed them in more remote regions like western Africa, eastern Europe and South America. The deeper you look, casting your net far and wide, the more bargains you’ll find.
Also think of a bargain as being relative to the club you are managing. For a big club, a bargain may be a €10 million wonderkid from Brazil. For a second division club, finding a €50,000 diamond in the rough could be a huge move for your club. As always, making best use of the filters on the scouting search page is crucial. Always consider the following: price, age, current ability, potential ability, look at the scout report for positive/negative tendencies, consider if their stats are suitable for their position, etc.
Another tip is to browse through youth international teams, especially for some of the up-and-coming countries. Delve deep into Senegal’s U-20 team or Ecuador’s U-19 side and you’ll find great value, especially as newgens cycle into the game.

Bosnia-Herzegovina
VALUE
€425K – €1.3M
SUITABLE FOR
Top-flight teams in France and Italy, or strong teams in Austria and Belgium
Vladan Kovačević is one of the best-value goalkeepers in FM22, without a doubt. After three seasons as a starter at FK Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the big shot-stopper made the move to Poland last summer – but that doesn’t take him off the market.
Not only is he one of the best-value young goalkeepers in the game, he’s one of the better young goalkeepers full stop. He is already a very good shot-stopper, he is aggressive coming off his line to collect high balls, and his size is a big advantage also. He has the potential to develop into a very solid top-five league and international goalkeeper.
It won’t take too much to sign him, either. His value range tops out at €1.3 million – which is a very affordable price for clubs in top-flights across Europe, or even second division teams – and he’s also entering the final year of his contract.

SUITABLE FOR
Clubs in every top-five league, not least the Premier League, Ligue 1 and Serie A
If you’re an ardent Football Manager, you’ll probably know who Tim Rönning is. He was one of the best young goalkeepers on FM21, and not much has changed for FM22.
He’s a very solid goalkeeper, more in the traditional template. His size is a massive advantage in terms of reaching and claiming high balls; he also has the strength to withstand contact in the penalty area. Moreover, Rönning is positionally sound and has solid concentration,
Again, the big Sweden is easily attainable from Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan. It won’t take much more than a couple million Euros to pick him up; that makes him a really good option for a wide range of clubs. If you’re managing a lesser team, you could sign him to be your starter. If you’re at a bigger club, Rönning would be an excellent option as a back-up. For a maximum of €3 million, you can’t go wrong.

Everyone! He has Champions League potential – if you can get him, get him
Anel Ahmedhodžić is (once again) one of the best affordable defensive talents in Football Manager. A quintessential “modern” centre-back, he starts with a well-rounded skillset that makes him ready for any of the top-five leagues across Europe.
He has everything you want in a centre-back – tall and athletic, he is intelligent in his decision-making and is a comfortable operator in possession. In fact, he’s more than comfortable, he’s excellent. Ahmedhodžić is a good progressive passer out from the back, as refelcted by strong passing, composure and vision attributes in-game.
Ahmedhodžić will set you back somewhere around €5 million, the top of our price range, but you will have to rely on Bordeaux not taking up their option to buy him. He joined the Ligue 1 side in January in real life. If they don’t take the deal, you definitely should.

VALUE
€600K – €1.7M
SUITABLE FOR
Solid stepping stone clubs in Spain and Portugal, or even in MLS
Alejandro Gómez ticks a lot of the boxes for a modern, high-level centre-back – quite tall, pretty athletic, excellent on the ball, with the added bonus of being left-footed. He was a cornerstone of Mexico’s under-17 that reached a World Cup final in 2019, and subsequently moved to Boavista in Portugal’s Primeira Liga for a season.
Now back in Guadalajara with his boyhood club CF Atlas, Gómez is a great pick-up on Football Manager 2022. He has room to develop in almost every aspect – especially his defensive nouse and physical strength – but he has almost all of the basics to be a high-level ball-playing defender in future, with a great FM personality to boot.
It shouldn’t take too much to get him out of Mexico if you move early; the more established he becomes in senior football, the more expensive the deal. He’d be an intelligent, high upside signing for clubs in Spain and Portugal particularly.

SUITABLE FOR
Lower-half clubs in top divisions, particularly Serie A – loan him out if you don’t have space for him
An FM21 icon returns. Andrea Papetti starts your save at Brescia in Serie B with a couple of years left on his contract. If you’re a lower-to-middle table top division team, especially in Italy, Papetti should be a high-priority target on your shortlist.
If you’re well-stocked at centre-back, don’t be afraid to send him back to Brescia, who will likely ask for him to be loaned back anyway. Papetti will likely set you back somewhere in the vicinity of €3 to 5 million – a lot of money in the short term, perhaps, but it’s a worthwhile investment for a player that has the potential to lock down a key role in your defence over the longer term.
He begins the game with top-level mental attributes for a young defender, and he is a really well-rounded athlete too, with 14 pace, acceleration and jumping reach, plus 13 strength. S0lid marking and passing attributes make him a good defender that’s comfortable on the ball for the future.

Strong teams in the Belgium and Netherlands, like KRC Genk and Feyenoord
Vålerenga IF are a historic Oslo club with a proud history of developing young talent. Their current group of players – even after being raided by better teams in bigger leagues this year – includes a number of high-level talents. Christian Borchgrevink is the one that could play at the highest level currently.
After a couple of seasons as a starter in Norway’s Eliteserien, Borchgrevink is ready to make the leap to a higher level league. Belgium and the Netherlands makes sense, but you could even phase him into a lesser top-five league side.
For no more than €3 million, you’ll get a 22-year-old solid right-back that can more than hold his own in defensive phases. More importantly, he excels on the ball as a passer and crosser from deeper areas, not dissimilar to Trent Alexander-Arnold in style and skillset. He represents good value for clubs looking to quickly clim the ladders.

VALUE
€325K – €950K
SUITABLE FOR
Good teams in Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, lower-level Spain
A member of Ecuador’s promising emerging generation, Byron Castillo looks to be a very solid right-back in FM22.
Castillo has a well-rounded skillset that can perform many of the roles that full-backs are tasked with. He can attack to a good standard; see his impressive passing, crossing, dribbling and off-ball movement. He can defend too, at least in one-v-one duels. Castillo is a dynamic athlete as well, with strong straight-line speed and good stamina.
In terms of the next step, he’d be a great option for South America’s bigger clubs (in Argentina and Brazil) or good teams in many of Europe’s mid-level leagues. Castillo’s profile would be suitable for Belgium’s Pro League or Austria’s Bundesliga. Spain and Portugal would be the ideal step though, particularly in terms of competitive level and cultural assimilation.

SUITABLE FOR
Lower-half to mid-table in Serie A, who have ambitions to push toward the European places
Matteo Ruggeri was a great pick-up in Football Manager 2021, and it’s no different here. The Italian starts the game on loan from Atalanta with Salernitana, but is well worth tapping up as the season progresses.
His skillset is very well-rounded, but he will be deadly when paired with a striker adept at scoring from headers. His excellent crossing ability will be a potent threat if you have the right targets. Most of all though, he is a workhorse that will get up and down the pitch and be accountable in a range of situations.
If you can get Ruggeri on a cut-price fee at the end of the first season following his loan, you’ll have a set-and-forget left-back or left wing-back to propel you to the top of the league at a first division club. Move quickly though, because Atalanta are renowned for developing and integrating home-grown talent.

Lower-to-mid-table teams in Spain’s La Liga and Italy’s Serie A
Abner Vinícius has the makings of a very solid left-back in Football Manager 2022. He’s been a regular starter for Athletico Paranaense for a couple of years now; you may know the club as the one that kick-started Bruno Guimarães’ career.
The 21-year-old has the potential to chart a similar course to the current Newcastle United midfielder. Vinícius would be a good option for many clubs in Europe’s top-five leagues, particularly in Spain and Italy. He’s a fairly well-rounded left-back that’s capable of contributing to every phase of play, not least the attacking sequences with his dribbling and crossing abilities.
It shouldn’t take much more than €5 million to sign Vinícius in your save. Athletico Paranaense are very much a selling club, plus he’s entering the final years of his contract.

SUITABLE FOR
Promotion-chasing teams in England’s Championship
Cameron Devlin moved to Hearts in the summer of 2021 and has made an immediate impression in the Scottish Premiership.
His ball-winning ability leaps off the screenshot: not only does he possess high-level attributes in terms of tackling, bravery, aggression and work rate, he has the sharp mobility and natural fitness to match. If you can improve his stamina, you have a great ball-winner that can go all game, week after week. He’s decent on the ball too, perfectly capable of keeping the all moving in deeper areas with short, quick passing.
Given he’s only just landed in Scotland in-game, you’ll have to wait probably a year to be able to sign him, but he’s worth the wait. He fits the Championship in England – he could be the aggressive, mobile, hard-working ball-winner to anchor a promotion-chasing team’s midfield. It shouldn’t take more than €1 million to pick him up.

Strong sides in Scandinavia or clubs in mid-level leagues, like the Eredivisie and Pro League
Filip Rønningen Jørgensen will be no surprise to the astute Football Manager, especially those of you that played the game last year. He was a favourite on FM21, a bonafide bargain, and that’s still the case this year.
He’s a very solid young prospect that can develop into a very solid defensive midfielder at the higher levels. His player profile already has a number of good anchor points given his age. His mental attributes (coupled with his resolute mentality) are ver impressive for someone of his age. He has good qualities in his technical skillset, not least his ability to pick a pass with 14 passing, 14 vision and an exciting combination of ‘dictates tempo’ and ‘tries killer balls often’ traits.
You’ll have to move for him pretty quickly, as the bigger clubs (like Borussia Dortmund) are often interested. He’d be an especially excellent signing if you’re managing one of the big Nordic clubs.

Stepping stone clubs in Belgium, or lower-table teams in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1
FC Nordsjælland – as they have been for a few years now – is a treasure trove of talent in Football Manager 2022. There’s Andreas Schjelderup, the prodigious Norwegian teenager, as well as the likes of Adamo Nagalo and Magnus Kofod Andersen.
Mohamed Diomandé is another. He’s a dynamic midfield talent with a rounded skillset and top-level potential that can be bought for well under €5 million. You can develop him into a multitide of roles, from an out-and-out attacking midfielder to a box-to-box presence. Perhaps the only weaknesses to his FM22 profile are an over-reliance on his strong left foot and a lack of ball-winning ability.
For less than €5 million, you can’t go wrong. That price tag enables smaller clubs across Europe to pick him up early before flipping him on for a healthy profit too. Diomandé has been on of our favourites to follow in FM22.

Clubs looking to get ahead of the curve, be it big clubs in big leagues or stepping stone teams
One of the rising stars of the Allsvenskan, Williot Swedberg has the potential to develop into a Champions League-level starter in FM22. But it will take a little bit of work, and you’ll do best to pick him up as a lower-level top league team or a stronger side in a smaller league. Watch him grow as you make push up the table.
The best part is, the spindly Sweden is dirt cheap. That means you’ll have to get in early, because the big teams will come fishing – Borussia Dortmund often make a move for him in our saves. Nevertheless, despite the big club interested, a measly €2-4 million should be enough to get him in.
When you do, you will have a set-and-forget star, that can play at every level of midfielder, with a special “model citizen” personality, a balanced physical profile, and strong technical stats in the right areas: dribbling, passing, technique and first touch. Big potential.

Spain’s second division would be perfect, or leagues at a similar level
Yuriel Celi should be a go-to option for many FM saves starting their season as a lower-level first division club, a better team in a mid-level league, or even a strong second division side. Available on a free transfer at the start of every save from his club in Peru Cantolao, Celi is a versatile midfielder or left wing option that has the potential to play at a good level. His skillset is remarkably well-rounded for a 19-year-old, which a great ability to deliver balls into the box already.
Again, he’s one of those that should grow with your club as you progress up the levels. Eventually he should settle as a start for a Europa League-level team, or a squad player for a Champions League club, although some of this depends on the randomness of dynamic potential.
As a low wage and practically no cost option – with good sell-on value and an immediate asset to your team – it’s well worth investing in Celi.

Kastriot Imeri is a really interesting player in real life, and that is reflected in FM22. He can play a multitude of different roles – from attacking eight to inverted winger off the left – and does so with an energetic style and technical skillset.
Following his impressive season in real life, Imeri has received a good bump in his reputations and abilities in the FM22 winter update. His versatility throws up a lot of options – you can develop him as a tricky winger off the left or try to shape him more as an attacker from deeper areas, breaking forward with and without the ball to involve himself in attacks.
He’d be a good option for clubs in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga especially, as well as Serie A. It’ll probably take around €5 million (at most) to sign Imeri, which is a good price for the options he offers. He has the potential to develop into a regular international.

A South American starlet in real life, Julio Enciso is a good little player to target as a lower-level club if you have a little bit of cash to spare. Sign him using instalments to maximise the amount you can spend elsewhere; €150,000-€200,000 up front should be enough, with instalments taking the deal to around €700,000-€750,000.
As a winger or inverted winger on either side, Enciso profiles as a high-level dribbler that’s quick off the mark. He’s built perfectly for a counter-attacking system, and has the potential to grow with your team as you secure promotion and embark on a push up into the mid-table and beyond.
His potential probably isn’t quite Champions League level, but he will develop strongly and will be a great saleable asset down the line. Expect him to be an even better prospect in Football Manager 2023.

Ilan Kebbal is a good example of the depth of talent that France has in its football system currently. He was playing in the French fifth tier back in 2019, now he’s a starter for a solid side in Ligue 1.
He’s a really tricky winger in real life. Small and slight, Kebbal has a darting change of tempo and a very nimble agility. He impacts games with his ball-carrying from deep, sharp dribbling in small spaces and creativity around the penalty area. His skillset in FM22 is fairly similar.
Kebbal is well-suited to the inverted winger role, receiving the ball in wider areas before driving inside to attack the box with dribbles, passes and shots with his deft left foot. Coming in at a maximum of €2.5 million, he’d be an astutue pick-up for a lot of Ligue 1 rivals, or clubs in lesser leagues looking for a difference-maker. Vålerenga IF have a lot of good young players. Christian Borchgrevink is one, Odin Thiago Holm is another, both are worth a look – but Osame Sahraoui is the Oslo club’s crown jewel.
Sahraoui is a proper street-style footballer, possessing exceptional technical quality particularly as a dribbler. He manipulates the ball really well with every part of his feet, and he has the burst and agility to twist and turn through tight spaces. He may be the most technically gifted young player in Norway.
He usually plays on the left-side of a 4-3-3, playing between the lines in the half-space – that’s where he comes alive as a dribbler and creative passer. He needs to add goals to his game, but he’s a great option for good clubs in mid-level leagues. There’s an exciting bargain to be had.

Lorenzo Lucca is one of the best young strikers available in FM22. You won’t be able to sign him in the first season, as he just arrived at AC Pisa this season, but keep an eye on him as you enter your second season.
In the latest game, Lucca is ready made to brutalise defences at a Champions League level. He makes perfect sense as a target forward, given his 2.01m frame, paired with elite-level heading and jumping reach stats. But you could definitely get away with using him as an advanced forward (or complete forward) if you can train him up as a link/creative passer.
Available for a very cheap price in the second summer, he will join you as long as you are in a top division. So, if you’re looking for a player that guarantees goals, Lorenzo Lucca is your guy. That’s why he’s one of the most bought players in Football Manager 2022.
HOW TO SIGN YOUNG PLAYERS ON FOOTBALL MANAGER 2022?
Squad planning is crucial. Check your depth charts, keep your shortlits updated, sort them by position even, and assess which areas you need to strengthen. Once you’ve done that, you can start signing young players that fit your demands.
Work to your budgets as well – don’t overstretch your club’s financial capabilities. If you’re a smaller club, future incentives and clauses (like fees after milestons, sell-on percentages, and even buy-backs) are a great tools to utilise.
WHAT ARE FOOTBALL MANAGER BARGAINS?
A bargain is obviously relative to the level of the players and clubs involved. They differ greatly from, say, Liverpool to Lincoln City. In the case of this particular page, we’ve tried to cap the maximum price at €5 million.
But essentially, a bargain is a player that is attainable for a value that belies their quality. Someone like Anel Ahmedhodžić i s a classic example – picking up a Champions League level talent for a tenth of his potential price. Bargains are the lifeblood of Football Manager.
HOW TO DEVELOP YOUNG PLAYERS IN FOOTBALL MANAGER 2022?
As always, pathways are paramount. You have to make sure that your youngsters have access to meaningful minutes at the appropriate levels. If you have a first-team ready talent, phase him into the team gradually, during pre-season ideally.
If your prospect needs a bit more polishing, the loan system is a valuable tool. But pathways to senior level minutes are key. Assess your youngsters on a case-by-case basis, decide what they need, and enact your decision.
HOW TO SELL YOUNG PLAYERS ON FOOTBALL MANAGER 2022?
Again, squad planning is key. Making sure your young players are playing, whether at your club or elsewhere, is important; more minutes increases their value. Sell at the right time too, set a defined policy and stick to it.
Don’t be afraid to sell young players too. If you haven’t got the right pathway for them, move them on (with a chunky sell-on percentage or accessible buy-back clause) to generate even more profits.
There are a few players that will become synonymous with being great bargains in FM22. One of them is Lorenzo Lucca at AC Pisa in Serie B. He has the potential to become one of the world’s leading striker’s in-game despite being available for less than €10 million on every save.
Scouting is essential – the harder you look, the more bargains you will find. Another tip is to browse through international youth teams and tournaments, especially as newgens cycle into your save.
